چکیده

MPLS (Multi-Protocol Label Switching) and DiffServ (Differentiated Services) provide means to implement various QoS types in IP networks. While MPLS enhances the classical IP networks by supporting efficient connection control through explicit label-switched paths (LSPs), DiffServ allows differentiated QoS parameters commitments to be supported on the same IP backbone for different classes of service. In this paper, we address an offline multi-class traffic engineering problem in IP/MPLS networks, where each class of traffic for a certain source destination pair is routed through a unique LSP, subject to per-class over-provisioning constraints. We introduce a heuristic, which indirectly solves the problem by iteratively optimizing IGP (Interior Gateway Protocol) link metrics for both the aggregate and the particular class of demands. Several computational results for the case of two and three traffic classes are provided. keywords : routing, traffic engineering, IP/MPLS networks, differentiated services (DiffServ)

An efficient mechanism for dynamic multicast traffic grooming in overlay IP/MPLS over WDM networks

This paper proposes an efficient overlay multicast provisioning (OMP) mechanism for dynamic multicast traffic grooming in overlay IP/MPLS over WDM networks. To facilitate request provisioning, OMP jointly utilizes a data learning (DL) scheme on the IP/MPLS layer for logical link cost estimation, and a lightpath fragmentation (LPF) based method on the WDM layer for improving resource sharing in ...

Algorithms for Traffic Engineering

Traffic Engineering in IP networks with MPLS In the past, routing protocols for IP networks (e.g. BGP, IS-IS, OSPF) used the shortest path to forward the traffic on network links, each of which is assigned by a routing weight. This may lead to an unbalanced distribution of the traffic in the network with high utilization of some links while others remain underutilized. Network planing and an ad...

An Offline Hybrid IGP/MPLS Traffic Engineering Approach under LSP Constraints

MPLS (Multi-Protocol Label Switching) enhances the possibility to engineer the traffic on IP networks by allowing explicit routes. Though IGP (Interior Gateway Protocol) routing has proven its scalability and reliability, effective traffic engineering (TE) has been difficult to achieve in public IP networks, because of the limited functional capabilities of conventional IP technologies. Without...

Performance Analysis for QoS Provisioning in MPLS Networks

LSR(Label Switching Router)s in MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) networks map arriving IP flows into some labels on Layer 2 switching fabric and establish LSP(Label Switching Path)s. By using LSPs, LSRs can not only transmit IP packets fast with cut-through mechanism, but also solve traffic engineering issue to maximize resource utilization in the whole MPLS networks. So far, we have analyz...

Path selection and bandwidth allocation in MPLS networks

Multi-protocol Label Switching extends the IP destination-based routing protocols to provide new and scalable routing capabilities in connectionless networks using relatively simple packet forwarding mechanisms. MPLS networks carry traffic on virtual connections called label switched paths. This paper considers path selection and bandwidth allocation in MPLS networks in order to optimize the ne...
